The Relationship Between REALTORS® and their Clients

buy or sell real estate
Real estate buyers and sellers, and the agents who help them, this post is for all of you!

I was just reading a post by Lola Audu about some happy real estate buyers of hers who had been approached by a scam artist. Fortunately, the buyers called their trusted real estate agent instead of taking the word of a stranger who was trying to make them believe that their home had liens against it and was going into foreclosure. It’s a shame that these real estate scam attempts are becoming all too common.

My reason for writing this post is to point out one of the aspects that real estate sellers and buyers often overlook, which is the relationship between REALTOR® and client.stairs in luxury house

Now I am not going to try to justify the actions of some unscrupulous REALTORS®, because unfortunately not all REALTORS® have the expertise that is necessary to survive in this tough market. And many of them are just as desperate for a paycheck as their sellers are to sell. But if there's one thing I know without question, it's that there is not one person on this planet that can dining roomsucceed in any endeavor, without help from someone. We are all interdependent in one way or another. ActiveRain is proof of that. We come here to share experiences and ideas, to network and form business relationships, to learn, and to help others. And it's that same type of interdependence that comes into play where the rubber meets the road: when REALTOR® and client work together in a trustworthy, beneficial relationship.

You see, if Lola had not built this type of relationship with her clients, her clients may have lost their home to a scam artist. (Or we could backtrack to the point where her buyers may have never found their home without her help.) If you’re not familiar with some of the scams that are currently being reported, read my post titled “Home Owners Facing Foreclosure-Beware of Scam Artists”. However, in the case of Lola's clients, they were not facing foreclosure. But the man who came to their door had a lot of facts that made him sound quite convincing.

So REALTORS®, this is just a gentle reminder that our clients depend on us, and despite what some people believe, those of us who are still hanging in there know that this job is hard work! And to real estate buyers and sellers, this is my way of letting you know that most REALTORS® genuinely care and will work diligently for you, when the time comes for you to buy or sell. And we all know that when you build lifelong relationships that are built on trust, the long-term rewards extend way beyond one real estate sale.

Hi Lisa,

Excellent points and great post. It's essential for long term success. Fortunately I have built some life long relationships with clients myself. They've been the life blood of my business through thick and thin.

Lisa.... you make some very valid points. Another reason why I love writing blogs, because the consumer can get a very good idea.... normally  ;o)  ,  who you are and what you stand for. I just received an e-mail like this from someone that has been reading my blogs. In any case, finding that person to trust is key and very important... but not to find someone as ethical, can be devastating. Your post for many is just that, awareness.

Lisa -

For me, this last paragraph has so much truth behind it.  I cannot even give this credit enough!  We have clients that DEPEND ON US, this is a FULL TIME JOB, and a tough one!

The difference between you and I (compared to many that were in the business just a year or so ago) is the FACT that we DO care!

Great post!

Lisa... My Mom has been in this business for over 30 years and she said something to me once that I will never forget, "Great brokers succeed in every kind of market because of WHO they are - not WHAT they are." We can make a world of difference to our clients by being our usual, caring selves! Terrific post!!

Hi Lisa:  Such excellent and uplifting thoughts you share with us.  I think it is only through both caring and hard work that we can weather this storm that the current market has produced.  Although the buyers market was fun, it is nice to have the feelings we get from our sellers that our skills really are necessary for them to go forward with their life's plans.  Thanks again for your fine post.  Take care.  And... I've been wanting to say this for months... Nice Hair !  LOL.

Lisa, Excellent post.  You may want to correct this line, "Now that we're in a buyer's market, buyer's are desperate to sell,".. I think you mean "seller's are desperate..."

Well stated Lisa. Building lasting relationships is the backbone of a lasting career in real estate. I too read Lola's post. Those folks were fortunate to have her to turn to.

Lisa,  You are so correct, but it is not only about building relationships, but about building 'trusting' relationships.

Lisa, this job IS hard work, no more so than in the current market.  Building that relationship with your clients is the only way to keep them from becoming frustrated at things that are beyond any of our control!

Yo are so right about building trust and long term.  I think a lot of the newbies didn't get this when they were taking orders for houses.  Now that the market has settled down, they have no one to call.  It always amazes me to look around at some of the agents that have been in the business tha same amount of time as i have and they have no business, but maybe it doesn't suprise me.
