Tivoli is a small close knit community in the township of Red Hook. It runs along the Hudson River and provides spectacular views of the Catskill mountain.
This village was incorporated in 1872 and because of it's proximity to the Hudson River it was once a stop on the steamship route. Because of this, the village was once an economic center for the area. This was even more evident when the railroad arrived in 1851.
Once the automobile arrived the railroad was no longer important. This led to economic decline because many were left unemployed or underemployed.
However in the 1980's the town started to come back. The Tivoli Garden, a condo complex was built, people started to renovate the old buildings, and more and more people moved in. The town has attracted professors and students from near by Bard as well as many artist.

This village is now a favorite of weekenders. I suppose this is because it is an easy going village; and in a rather small area you can have a choice of Mexician, Vegetarian, Japanese, Italian, Irish and American cuisine.
