When warm weather arrives on the coast of Eastern North Carolina, thoughts turn to the beach and swimming. Who can resist a day of sun, surf and sand?           Bear Island Swansboro NC

Hammocks Beach State Park located on Bear Island in Swansboro ,North Carolina is a three mile stretch of one of the most unspoiled beaches on the Atlantic Coast. The island is accessible only by private boat or passenger ferry.

Bear Island’s beautiful crystal, blue/green waters provide an extraordinary opportunity for swimming, wading or simply enjoying the beauty of the surf.

The beach is wide and uncrowded, the sand white and clean. The tidal pools that collect on the beach provide ideal “kiddie” pools for small children.

Pack a picnic and all your gear because the island is free of commercialism. There is no place to buy suntan lotion, sand toys, food or drink.

For a fun day of swimming, relaxation and seclusion in a pristine, natural setting..... Bear Island at Hammock's Beach cannot be surpassed.

Of course, there is shelling, strolling on the beach, fishing, bird watching and boating too.

Cynthia, Your beach sounds just delightful AND uncrowded!  And I love ferry rides, a perfect combo. I know many of us can't wait for the warmer weather.

Hello Cait,
Yes, there is one!  Remember this is a very small town, there are larger beaches with more motels pretty close by too.  Thanks.

Hi Carole,
This is a great beach  if you like  to really get away from the crowds and commercialism.  I'm ready for Spring too.

Keith,
We had a pretty warm day today, high  in the upper 60s.  I am definitely getting spring  fever.

Come on Summer! I can't believe that we're getting close to spring and we had snow here Monday and will have snow Thursday and Friday! Go figure! We can wear shorts all winter, but let it get close to spring and it snows! LOL

What a great looking beach! Makes me want to sit in that warm water and splash. You do such a great job with your localism pieces.

Hi Cynthia,

Ohhhh....just looking at that white sand and sunny skies makes me wish I was laying there soaking up some sun listening the beach sounds all around (I love listening to the sounds at a beach on a nice summer day...children playing, gulls crying, waves crashing, people talking...it's so relaxing)

thanks for giving us this little taste of summer and letting us know about a beautiful 'must-see' beach in your area.

Cynthia, we loved the North Carolina beaches.  After moving here my parents took our son to the beach down at Galveston and they were just disgusted after the clean white sand North Carolina beaches.

Cynthia - Very nice photos and it really looks very relaxing and enjoyable.  I always like going to Galveston for the day, but it sounds like it is not as nice as your beach.  I am sure it is beautiful.

Linda,
May I second that? These warm days we're having are really making me anxious for summer.  Thanks you for your kind words and support.

Hi Jo,
So do I!  Is there anything more relaxing than a day on the beach?  I think not.

Marchel,
Our beaches are really great, guess we're a little spoiled.  I know I appreciate ours more after visiting some others.  Thanks.

Hello Candy,
You must get to NC beaches and see for yourself what Marchel and I are talking about.

Cynthia- I can't believe I lived in south Carolina, Fort Jackson, and never made it to the Beach.  They have Myrtle Beach if I remember correctly, and looking at your photo, and reading this made me regret I never saw the beaches there.  Hopefully others get over there :)

Hello Don,
When did you live in NC and where?

Diane,
I hope you can't get back down soon and soak up the sun and salt.

Hi Teri,
My favorite time is the Fall, especially October.  It is still warm, the crowds are gone and it is not as humid.

Hello Kathy,
Well neither can I!  Yes, there is Myrtle Beach, Kiawah Island, Isle of Palms,  Folly Beach and some others.  Myrtle Beach is tourist city for sure!

Ok Cynthia- I want to tell you a secret... I used your idea about the library activities in one of my last blogs, but now you have one up on me.    I can't blog about beaches in Chicago in the winter in 10 degrees.  My home would be blogged   .  I mean egged.

Hi Judy,
Shhh!  It's ok, I'm flattered that you like my idea.
Brrrr!  Chicago is a wonderful city with lots of advantages but weather this time of year is not one of them in my book!  LOL.

Julie,
It won't be long now before we will start going to the beach and playing in the water and sand.  I'm ready. Thank you.

Hi Jennifer,
There is nothing like a warm, sunny day on the beach.  We're counting the days.

When I was small we lived in South Carolina and went to a place called Short Stay...we had a camper and that's where I learned to swim. My dad had a hold of my bathing suit on the back and held me up while I flapped my wings lol!  Fun fun fun in the sun!
