Friday, Feb 02, 2007—Just Stepped out the door of My back Porch—and Stepped Right Back In!

Jay's Porch

It’s -07ºF with a wind chill of -26ºF on my back porch this morning. A predicted high of +10ºF  with WNW winds of 10 to 20mph, with the wind chill hovering around -10º to –20ºF! Graphic notwithstanding—I’m NOTwithSTANDING outside!

Here in Minnesota, the weather is ALWAYS a subject of conversation:

“Cold enough for ya, den?”

“Ya-sure, you betcha.”

If it gets any colder, conversations outside will cease altogether—we’re much too impatient to wait ‘til spring for the words to thaw out.

Whatcha think, den, Gentle Reader—cold enough for ya?

Jay (stayin’ inside for now) Merton

Good Morning!

We are getting our very first snow of the season here in my part of New England.  We may end up with a whopping one or two inches!   We're supposed to get that cold air next week.  Seems like my other Jay friend from the north (for real, and on these comments) is experiencing the same winter as we are.

What did the MN official groundhog predict?  Our official Ohio groundhog, Buckeye Chuck predicted an early spring... The big kahuna (sp? ) of groundhogdom, Phil in PA predicted an early spring...  It will make this cold blast which is headed our way easier to take...

Jay...

I was up all night on a tornado watch. We had two water spouts on our Lake.

We had 50 to 60 mile an hour winds and the debris was flying all over the place. We haven't even hit hurricane season yet. This is a good indicator of what our season will be like this year.

My husband, Broker Bryant, slept through all of this :)

And he probably will "WORK" on his tan today. Yah. He calls that work. He also calls writing a check work :)

BB & TLW: I was concerned about you Florida friends when I heard about the storms hitting Central Florida—thank you for commenting. TLW: You let that overgrown reprobate sleep through the storm? Oh, I get it—probably better he did! He should write you a check in just the amount necessary to add just that right something to your home décor, for standing storm-watch! Tanning—indeed! I haven’t forgotten about you caricature BB, it’s just that there are sooo many photos out there, staged & pre-staged to choose from…I have a “working drawing’ done, just trying to tweak it a bit.

Jennifer: While we may want to hoard our precious cold, as it’s been a namby-pamby, warm, and generally snow-less winter for us so far, it will only last until Wednesday.

Maureen M: I don’t know what the little critter saw—it’s been a strange day—sunny in places, foggy in places, and cloudy in places, headlights and sunglasses today when I drove about doing my usual codger-things.

I can't even find a Twins City Groundhog at Ground Hog Central

Duluth is north of you?  "Spike - Duluth, Minnesota   Okay, he's not really a groundhog, but if we can have Llamas and Chickens standing in, certainly a porcupine (aka a Groundhog with a perpetual bad hair day) is welcome.  "

Sun Prarie in Wisconsin is south of you but this does not bode well for Wisconsin

Jeff: Actual temp or windchill? Either is brutal. I'm not certain, but I don't believe we've been above 0 since I wrote this post.

Windchill... the weather service has been advising people to stay off the roads unless they have to go out. If they do go out... make sure that they keep blankets in the car (The weather has been causing cars to just break down out here) And if you go out... make sure that you wear multiple layers of clothing and cover up completely. Just 10 minutes of exposure could cause frostbite. I MISS SUMMER!!!

Schools are already closed here on Monday in some of the more rural areas... and some suburban areas, Reynoldsburg, Olentangy and Pickerington... Monday. Sunday night  even the City of Columbus Public schools were closed for Monday because of the cold.  I don't remember schools closing for cold in Wisconsin growing up... of course we walked 5 miles to school with no shoes... even though the school was only 2 miles from home...

I say lets send this weather back to MN and WI where it belongs!  Or Alberta? This may be an Alberta clipper....

We are about 10° above zero today!  I think all or most of the schools closed here today, one has already closed for tomorrow (we are not used to this!!!! this is cold for us...)

I am boycotting your entry today.  Great imitiation of an abrasive,  shrewish voice but I tend to avoid that.

Jeff: As I write this we are at +2ºF with almost no wind. From Friday night until now we have not been above zero.

Maureen M: Today’s post was written absolutely tongue-in-check. I just finished reading the comments, and had pick myself off the floor after ROFL-ing. Still, I respect your position.
