How do you get business in this crazy market??!!!

Joe's picture

For years now I have tried everything & anything to get business in the door.  I've tried buying leads, pounding the pavement from door to door & floor to floor until there ain't no more!!  I've tried mass faxes, letters, postcards, telemarketing, business handouts, seminars etc, etc, etc.  I've used coaching from 3 different companies & have networked with groups such as LeTip & my local chambers of commerce.

What I've found is that the BEST things are the ones that cost the least amount of money!! The best results come from just doing things differently.  The highest ROI (return on investment) comes from good old fashion ingenuity. Today it comes from the internet & one utilizing the power of technology to catapult your business forward.

Perfect case in point. Everyone keeps on saying how HORRIBLE the market is. But wait, according to all of the industry experts, aren't there a TON of foreclosures?  Aren't there a TON of banks that don't want these things?  Aren't those banks willing to sell those homes for MUCH LESS that what they currently are worth? That's one example of the real estate market!

But the first thing I hear is, but Joe, we need to get our name out there!! We need to advertise!! We need to spend money to make money!! But how do you spend money when money is so tight?! How in the hell do you start or keep your business running if you don't have the money to keep it going? Well according to what I know, you need to be creative & get in front of people. BEHOLD THE POWER OF THE INTERNET & FREE RESOURCES!! Come on guys!! Did you ever hear of Craigslist.com? How about fastrental.com?  How about ebay? How about all of the other free resources that just take some time to set up!!

So here's my request from everyone.  Let me know what free resources you use or can find on the internet. If you don't know of any, ask me what we use & how we use it!! I look forward to hearing from ALL OF YOU!!

Hi Joe,

A few weeks ago I put my listings on CraigsList.  The number of hits they are getting is amazing.  One of the homes I have listed is upper end and will probably sell to a transferee.  I thought getting it out on Craigs would be a good start.

How do you use CraigsList?

The market is excellent - just for buyers.  You don't have to do a ton of activities, just do them well and consistently.  Do not expect to get leads immediately from farming - it can take over a year.

I have tons of activity going on right now and it is all from my website and blogging.  Just need to get them all to commit and to closing and it will be a great year!

You are so right about there being opportunities and being creative!!! The Handshake listing on

www.point2agent.com are a great way to differentiate with sellers and get the exposure for the listings. They will syndicated the listing to 20+ sites, which makes it much easier for you

Another great tool to use is the single sites through AgencyLogic. We did one and got over 1100 views after advertising it on CraigsList and the other portals

April,

I use Craig's list by putting in my adds into the financial services section. I use myphotobucket.com to download my ads & then I use the HTML link to post an entire full page ad into craigslist.  Works out fantastic!!

Joeann - thanks for the info!! I love it! This is the stuff that my team & I need to know!! Great stuff.  Keep on posting guys!!

This is a great market to make money.  Get into BPO, Short Sales, work woth assett managers...Hook up with auctioneers would be high on my list.

At an auction say 30 people get pre qualifed (that's 30 bona fide buyers) only 1 wins leaving 29 active buyers that are qualified.  In time you'll need to hire an assistant.

Keep in touch - I spent nearly 20 in lead genration for the largest home improvment co. in the nation so I have a good undertsanding of how to get business - I am just learning (in business a couple years) how to structure deals etc.
