Professional desigations

I just thought that I would share this idea with the rest of you.  I have my CRS,GRI,ASP, E-PRO AND CSP.  The reason that I have so many designations is because when I have to get my 30 hours of continuing ed  ( this is a requirement in Ohio) in I try to take a designation class.  This way I have something to show for my 30 hours and I really feel that I learn a lot more in these course classes than in random classes.

There is nothing worse than sitting in what we nicknamed "continuing Hell" when you are not learning a thing and the instructor does not know what they are doing.  I am all for keeping us up to date and education BUT don't just sit me in a room and bore me to death.

So this is how I have gotten so many designations and I plan on getting more. In fact it will be this year--OH YEAH!!

Hi Betsy,

Very smart!  What a great use of your time.  And the designations look nice too!

Have a successful week.

Professional designations are good, but does the prospect care ?? Sometimes I wonder if they really care who get what. Don't get me wrong I like them and I will get one or two this year, but I don't put them in my business card.

Betsy,  I am working on my CRS now.  It is expensive and a true time commitment.  But as a new broker I need the continuing ed.  I have taken some great classes and have picked up many useful ideas.  Worth the time and effort.

I am wondering if the designations actually bring you business.  I would much rather show my B.S. in Computer Engineering than an E-Pro.  I am not sure the consumer even knows what the designations are.

Betsy,

I like to take classes.  I believe it gives me an edge over my competitors.  I always learn something and the designation is a bonus.  It also looks good on my business card.

I always take the time to explain what the designations mean and how much work you have to put in to get them.  I think that clients do like that and are somewhat impressed.  BUT on the other hand I get a lot of referrals from other realtors because they know that someone with this many designations must be committed to the business and definitely has the education to be good at what they do.  NOW whether or not everyone puts those skills to good use ....that's another blog!

Have a great day!
