Placerville CA is located in El Dorado County in the foothills between Sacramento (state capitol) and So. Lake Tahoe, approximately 50 minutes to each one. GOLD in these here hills is what originally drew people here. It was discovered in an area 18 minutes away called Coloma CA at Sutter's Mill. So, what's the answer to the question above? If you answered Vincent Van Gogh you're wrong! If you answered Thomas Kincaide you are correct. Second question: What is he known as? 'Painter of Light'.....There is a large Kincaide art gallery with many interesting treasures besides paintings.....Also the area offers tons of antique shops and historical sites. Some popular movies have been filmed here....Placerville still has that 'old town' friendly feeling PLUS a stage coach (horses, cowboys and the whole sha-bang!) that graces Main street on occasion....Country meets civilization!
