Back in the early 90's I was invited to go to Little Rock AR to hear a motivational speaker named Roald Marth. I'd never heard of him but motivational speakers have always motivated me! DUH! The crowd was small; I think he was just starting out. His program was to push his Superstar Computing. Roald's speaking was dynamic and he had this pretty little box that was a computer. A laptop! I'd never seen one before. My office was a cubby hole so I thought, "That may fit in my space. I'll ask about it. I may buy one." Roald was interested in selling them and his workshop. He took a group of us to his traveling van and explained how they worked. Boy, were we motivated!
His favorite thing to stress was that we should not be part of the herd. The herd was like a group of cattle who stuck together and all did the same thing. We were to be leaders in the field with a big thirst for knowledge that knew no boundaries.
We signed him up to come to Searcy AR and teach a class on computers. He came with a computer for each student to use. I bought one of those little boxes and started learning more about it. I put all my customers on it. I could carry it around from home to my office. I loved it.
Just a few years later, the world wide web was available. I had to sign up!! More learning. My computer purchases continued. I also continued seeing Roald Marth becoming more and more popular as a convention speaker. I googled him the other day and he is still out there. Here's a great video of him. http://www.technologyevangelist.com/ro.html I've been to many conventions and heard Howard Brinton and all the other popular speakers but I must say that Roald did more for me than any of the others.
Is there anyone out there who made a big difference in your life? Someone who actually made you change and learn new things. We'd all love to know who it was and how.
