Livestreaming Video Technology As A Replacement For Websites?

My dear friend just sent me her livestreaming video for Real Estate communication. She suggests that this technology will replace the need (& any benefits?) of a website! Whhaaat?! I'm just wondering if this has come to your town. I live in the South and am trying to calculate the 'expected time of arrival.' It's really fun to watch, and wonder about. I want to learn more, and would love to hear any other user's feedback here. (I also think she has an advantage of belonging to the SAG!) Would most of us need acting lessons?? or voice??! I guess if you could really make a quality presentation (which she does) it could be very exciting way to communicate.

(on a personal note, Lynne and I  "adopted" each other as sisters over 3 decades ago, and later had sons born in the same year. The boys grew up as best friends, and, although one is married now, they still live across the street from each other and are best friend "brothers"... Lynne has always been about making connections for people. She connected me to Active Rain. I'm so grateful!)

What about people who don't have a fast access connection? This appears to be a streaming video. It will take too long to load over dial up connections. And I make a LOT of videos for a number of reasons, but I would never expect my videos to take the place of e-mail or a web site. I've never even heard of a "life stream".

Mara,

Well, I don't know if this will ever replace a website.  I have attached a webcam and am capable of sending a video e-mail message to clients, but I don't think it will ever replace a website.  Many of us do not like going to websites that open with music playing or someone popping up on the screen to start talking to you and I don't know that this will be viewed any different.  People like to look at websites because they feel they can look without being bothered.  Your friend does do a nice job and seems to have a pretty darn nice webcam.

Thanks for your feedback, LISA. Maybe it's "live" stream!.. an indication that how I hear something can truly differ from how I might read something.

MIKE, I appreciate you stopping by. Thank you for reminding me of some important differences. It was fun to see my friend, but don't know that I'd want to be "bothered" without a prior connection. I'd prefer reading/website info & intros. Course I say that now...

Hi Mara - This may become reality in the future but I doubt the "near" future. Video will become integrated into our business but I don't think it will replace a website for a while.

I agree with Bill...but I am going to check out the wonderful information you have provided. I love the story of you and your "sister" and both of your children ! It's pretty awesome !

Video is getting bigger and bigger because of You Tube... but people are slow to change and with tough economy.. people want to keep costs down on internet connections..

I think I like the static websites.  I hope our clients don't start expecting this but I personally don't think they will.  I also enjoyed the story of your sons.

Mara, I agree with some others said about having the very fast connections to make video work effectively. It is coming in the future, I just think for the masses it is ahead of its time this year.

I still have so much to learn. I joined Helloworld/lynnepope and got the logitec camera.

I should have asked my son who has it built into his mac....it really is going to be our future

but when?  Maybe a year or so. In the meantime move away from websites and get a blogsite

Wordpress is the best.  anyone can do it if I can. See you at Inman!

I agree with Lynn - Wordpress is the way to go instead of our "regular" websites now.  Google indexes them faster (yes and yahoo et al) and you can pack lots of information clearly and succinctly on them.  Another plus is that they are easier to create a .mobi site from which is "right here - right now".

Video - sure - but at this moment?  Not really. Pay attention to people on their mobiles being able to view your website first.

BTW - great idea Mara!  Loved the info and taking a look at the site!
