The tale of being stranded on the island of St. Martin makes for a good party story, and we all laugh about it now, but in real life, being stranded in paradise is not as much fun as you'd think...

It all started on a bright, sunny day, when our beautiful, immense, Royal Caribbean mega cruiser set anchor on the blue waters of the island of St. Martin.  My boyfriend was going on a day long dive, and my daughter and I rented a jeep and set upon exploring the island.

We had an enchanting day, basking in all the beauty:  white sands, crystal clear blue waters, majestic sites.  We even visited the famous beach by the airport, where the signage indicates the danger of currents created by jets taking off and there are stories of people being literally swept off their feet by the heavy currents of the 747's taking off.  Ominous signage indicates the danger, but there is nothing like watching the planes take off and land, literally above your head.  If you have never experienced it, I highly recommend it.  It is particularly enticing to adrenaline junkies...  (like me, I guess...)

Oops... It's late...  tune in tomorrow for part two!

By the way, join us in our new travel club, TravelingRainers.   ... Shameless plug...  I know... sorry about the story interruption!   I promise I'll make up for it tomorrow!   My story is THAT good!  ...Well worth the wait, you'll see...

Dang it!   I can't wait.  Were you knocked off your feet and knocked unconscious?

Anxiously awaiting tomorrow!

Mirela - that's not right. I'm betting maybe liquor and/or nudity are involved somehow?

There's a field just off the end of the runway at National Airport (DCA) and the planes land right over your head.  You hear a whistling right after they go by.  But those are 737s and other mid-sized jets.  A 747 would be intense!  I've been near the runway for take-offs and landings of a  747 and that's awesome.  I might have to visit St. Martin.

Mirela...What a place to be stranded.  Even if only for a short time (well, I don't know how short...when I get to part 2 I will know).  We took a Royal Caribbean cruise last year (it was a real estate bonus!!!) and had a stop in St. Martins also.  Now I'm off to read Part 2.

Cheers,

Kathleen

Sharon:  Here is the story about how I got left behind in St. Martin.  This is part 1.  Click on the link within the blog for part 2.   It's funny now, but it wasn't too much fun while I was in it....

This is a good one to bring back.  It ties in to another blog I will post this week about taking back the power and dealing with things left unfinished.  I returned to St. Martin on the very first day of 2009.  These two blogs will make my new blog more relevant.  I hope you enjoy them!
