Here in Southern Utah, we have a remarkable story about a young man that only has one arm, yet he led his baseball team to the 1A state championship last season and was instrumental in the basketball team's run deep into the State Championship basketball tournament.  I have never met this remarkable young man, but I have followed the story because he comes from the same High School that my father did.  Wayne High School in Bicknell, Utah.

This remarkable young man, Porter Ellett, lost the use of his right (dominate) arm in an accident when he was 4 years old.  He spent hours teaching himself to be good enough at sports to not be the last boy picked to play.  He has done much better than that, last season, as a pitcher and fielder, he was the Utah 1A MVP.  His story will probably get picked up by the national media, and many will read about this courageous young person.  His high school is still one of the smaller schools in the State, but that really doesn't diminish what he has accomplished.

There is a great lesson to be learned, to never give up, and with a lot of hard work, and a good attitude, many terrible hardships can be overcome.

Pretty incredible- just goes to show you that anything can be done if a person wants it badly enough

What a great story! I hope the national media does pick it up! It definitely seems uplifting and we could use that! Here is a very apt quote:

No-one gets an iron-clad guarantee of success. Certainly, factors like opportunity, luck and timing are important. But the backbone of success is usually found in old-fashioned, basic concepts like hard work, determination, good planning and perseverance.
