1970's CRM

1970s CRM

This 1970's style CRM can still kick some hind end if used properly.

While moving one of our Metro Brokers Offices at Southglenn, in Littleton Colorado, to a new location in Highlands Ranch, Colorado,  I came across a box with written contacts and yes, spare Index cards.  I remember in fact using such cards myself and then went on to a Day-Timer method, then the PC based CRM method and now use a standard HTC Mogul Smartphone with Outlook and Exchange Server for all my contacts.

This Metro Brokers office had been in the same location for 28 years.  I have been in the Real estate business for 23 years.  It really is quite amazing the change that has occurred in the past 20 some years.  However, I find in talking with many brokers each day, I am still quite amazed that most still DO NOT UTILIZE any type of contact database. NONE.

You will hear them talk about Outlook or ACT or Top Producer....but quite honestly this little box above would be quite effective...... if used.   Application vs. implementation is still a big issue for most real estate people.

that is really amusing. but i believe many are still using index cards even today. just to share with you, a CRM becomes more effective if you integrate it seamlessly with your online and offline activities. And I believe most CRM products out there fall short of achieving this integration:

  • a visitor signs-up on your newsletter thru your website. this lead should go to your crm database
  • you send autoresponder messages to your clients and potential clients. this again is recorded in your crm database
  • you need to make a call to a client by this day. your CRM reminds you to do this
  • you visit a client in his office. this you can record in your CRM
  • and a lot more activities you can integrate with your day-to-day tasks

I don't want to be too salesy but if you are interested to achieve this kind of integration, please see my profile.

Teodolfo-   sweet answer-  I use an com add-in for exchange and outlook that does just what you describe with all of our smart phones!!!   It is such an advantage over the common broker...that its like having missiles as weapons compared to stones!!!

yes it is a great advantage over the competition. we let the CRM manage our most mundane tasks and we do what we do best, growing our business.

Index cards can be remarkably effective to track your active and low-priority prospects. I still use them today, although most of my SOI tracking is done on TP. Great post!

So true, implementation is everything.  I found an old pile of cards from a previous business when cleaning my office a couple of months ago and added them to my computerized system.  What a change.
