My new GoDaddy representative called me yesterday morning and asked "Did you intentionally make the decision to not renew your domain names?".

This question really got my adrenaline charging.  I hesitated on my response with a very sick feeling in my stomach . . . please don't tell me they have expired . . . I worked so hard to get them.  How can I sell real estate in Houston, Texas without those domain names?  I finally answered, "Oh nooooooooooo . . .they can't have expired.  I need them.  I worked too hard to find those names."

The representative quickly calmed me down and told me that I had 4 more days before they expired.  I was so relieved. I renewed them for a couple more years.

I never thought to put the expiration date for my domain names on my calender.  I will from now on.  I can't expect people to call me every time something that important is due.

HAVE YOU KEPT UP WITH YOUR DOMAIN NAMES???????

Meg, we set our Godaddy account up for automatic renewals, which means they contact you when your domains are either 60 or 90 days from expiring. I use Rod Fitzhugh who is fantastic at Godaddy. Here's his e-mail: rfitzhugh@godaddy.com

You should alwasy renew your domain name, especially because older domain names have a tendency to come up hgiher in the organic searches.

Surprised there are not more comments on this Meg. This is so often overlooked and the cause of much heartbreak, and renewals are so cheap! Thanks for the wake-up call!

Duane - Thanks for the tip and Rod's name.  I'm going to check into that right away.  I sure thought it was strange.

Chadd - That's great to know!  I almost had a fit when I first heard the words out of the representatives mouth.  Our domains are important!

Richard -LOL!!!!  I received your response within minutes of posting this.  We sure don't need the heartbreak.  You're very welcome.

Big thanks from me to you for commenting.  Have a terrific week!

Meg, no problem, it takes the memory aspect out of the equation when they automatically send you notices of up coming renewals. Pass along a hello to Rod from me, you will enjoy working with him, he's a super guy!

Hi Meg - I'm glad everything worked out with your domains. Very good post and what a great reminder for everyone!

Bobby - If memory serves me right . . .I think someone from your office  . . . who's no longer with you . . .set up my domains with GoDaddy.  I bet the representative couldn't get hold of him.  Who knows . . . it all worked out great.  Ya'll are absolutely the best.  Thanks for all that you do!

Duane - You're great!  Thanks again.

Great reminder for everyone!  All of my domain names expire on different days so I had to put them in my calender to keep track of them all.  Great post!

I sure wouldn't want to lose my domain names.  I recently suggested to a family member that she register her children's names so they would always own their own domain.  Not a bad idea to do that with children.

Chris - Maybe you could just schedule a couple calls to renew similar sets for renewal at one time.  I can't imagine having to check in on different days of the year.  Time goes by so fast.  Have a wonderful day!

Diane - That's a fabulous idea!  I'm going to check that out today for my girls. Thanks for the great idea. Enjoy your day!

GoDaddy has a nice feature where they will align all your domain names to renew on the same date and remind you of the renewal.  Plus they are CHEAP!

Thanks for the reminder. I was hoping a domain I wanted was going to expire at the end of last month. I guess Go Daddy did a good job finding the owners in that case as well!

just remember even if you do set up auto-renewal, better make sure you still have that same credit card number when the time comes to renew

03/07/2008 11:49 PM by Rob Muller - ABR, ASP, RCC, CNHS, LREA Cherokee County Real Estate (ReMax Town & Country)

Gail - I really like the CHEAP part!

Amy - You're welcome!  i know . . .I really lucked out on mine when I got the main one.  Maybe you can get something close to what you were wanting.

Rob - You're right . . .I had to give them a couple different cards before they were able to match what I used before.  They only ask for part of the number for security reasons.

I want to thank each of you for your comments.  I really appreciate them.  Have a great weekend!

Meg, did you get all set through Rod @ Godaddy's?

03/08/2008 08:38 AM by * Rate A Home (Rate A Home)

Duane - My husband, Jim, took care of it.  Thanks again for the information.  I appreciate you very much!

Have a fabulous week!

Good domain names are hard to come by.  It is very important to remember to renew.

Meg, I have the .net , but I was keeping an eye on the .com . People are so Internet savvy now that I don't think it makes that much of a difference anymore. I just wanted to have them both!

I too use the auto renewal feature.  I actually renewed a couple by mistake this way that I didn't really want anymore, but it was better than loosing others.
