In order to establish mutually beneficial Realtor/Lender relationships and better serve Real Estate agents...

If you’d be so kind, I’m looking for your expert advice. Please, answer one or more of these questions. The answers will be shared for the benefit of other Lenders -- inevitably Realtors too.

Realtors are "targetted" by lenders all the time. Some approaches are standard:

"Hi, my name is John from We’re the Best Mortgage Company, and we have the best rates for your clients, the best service, and fast turn around. Here's my card. Just call me when you got a buyer. Thanks!"

Others are ritualistic:

"Hey, everybody! Barney just brought the donuts and ratesheets!"

Others are unforgettably good.

That's what I'm curious about:

1. What approaches have you heard or experienced that attracted you and lead to quality Realtor/Lender relationships?

2. What do you (as a real estate agent) want from a lender?

3. In other words: How did you develop your lender relationship and what advice do you have for a quality lender looking for good quality Realtors to partner with? Thanks in advance for all your kind responses. I appreciate your help!

Honestly, I want a  lender to tell it like it is (I CAN get this done or NO WAY).  If I am going to be sending a lot of business to a lender, then ideally, I would like for a win-win scenario as well.  I would like some financial help in the rainmaking it takes to get business and hence send deals to the lender since the lender's business feeds off of my business.

However, most importantly, it's all about how you treat my clients.  I've dumped lenders who spoke "down" to my buyers before.  Just not going to have that!

I agree with Steve and Ron.  Service is number one, because the whole experience reflects upon me as well.  Also, I need to know early on if it can or can't happen, and my buyers do too.  I also find it refreshing when a mortgage broker comes to me with a referral instead of asking me to trust him/her and to refer clients to him/her without ever having worked together.  That would definitely set that person apart.

Thank you Steve and Ron and Matthew. I appreciate your feedback. Good service is ground zero and I realize that. The problem is every loan officer promises the best service. I was hoping for more #3 answers:

Larry,

Good question. I had a lender ask me a long time ago why they would want to work with me, sorta put me on the spot but worked out alright.

Joint customer service ventures is a big one for me, by that I mean being willing to help host client housewarming parties, move in day box etc. I also like to introduce my lender to my listings by a personal letter. Bottom line I like to be able to present to my clients a team that works well together to get them to their goals.

I have eaten enough Lender supplied donuts to last a lifetime.

Hey Dan, thanks for responding. It's tough to get a good Realtor/Lender relationship going these days with broker restrictions, in house lending, home offices, few office meetings...

Sort of like the dating process - singles are always saying "its hard it is to find a good man/woman. All the good ones are taken..."
