The power of a 6mm kidney stone

I have spent that last 24 hours in the hospital flat on my back, alternating between being drugged up and squirming in pain.  Kidney stones what a painful experience.  6mm is only a 1/4 of an inch big but it is impossible to squeeze that out of your kidney.  Many people compare it to child birth but as one lady said today "at least we have a baby at the end".

But during one painful period last night I realized I was still lucky in life.  No matter how bad life is there are people out there that have it far worse.  One of my friends is fighting his 2nd round of brain cancer, another friend just had a shadow appear on his ex-ray.  Another friend has lost his job and is getting a divorce.  So when you have a bad day don't despair.  Each day we have on earth is a good day.  Sure it isn't perfect, but take the day.

So when that real estate deal goes south or your life goes in the dumps, don't despair.  Pick yourself up, go enjoy life with your family and friends.  Think how lucky you really are by living in the USA.....

Isn't it amazing how something so small can cause that much pain??  I had shoulder surgery and I think even that was less painful  :-)

I can't imagine your pain but if you ask a woman she'll tell 6mm is nothing! Now my wife is pregnant every day I hear about watermelons and straws! Driving me crazy!!!!  Hope tomorrow is much much better!

My husband experienced a very similar event.  Very painful, I hope you never go through that again.  May AR bring great results for you, and thank you for commenting on my blog. Lu

Oh Russ, after your vacation when you were all rested. Actually I had a friend get one and she has 5 children and she said it was worse than childbirth.

I was seen in the ER x2 days ago and after being degraded by an ER doctor who apparently was convinced I was a "drug seeker" ordered a CT scan I was found to have a 6x4mm kidney stone.  (sidenote: If I was seeking drugs, it was because at the moment I was having unbearable pain) Regardless my question is this:  The ER doctor came back a little shigrinned and reported the size of my stone and said that it had just entered the ureter and I most likely will not be able to pass this on my own.  He said I should see a urologist.  I called all the urologists in the area and none of them can see me til the end of the month and this is only the 7th. I am still in pain but it has eased to a constant moderate pain, rather then extreme, doubled over pain.  My question is, Is it okay to wait and how long should I really wait before it can become a problem?  If anyone knows any information regarding this it would be greatly appreaciated.

Kim,

UNfortunately when your body tries to expell that stone is when you get that pain.  Who knows when that will happen.  The sooner you get it looked at, the sooner life will get better for you.  I myself would find a doctor that can help you sooner.  Keep calling
