Last night, my son and I drove to the Conowingo Dam located just above Havre de Grace, the Maryland town in which we live. We were greeted by a crowd that included news teams and other curiosity seekers.

Storms in New York state have swelled the Susquehanna River to flood levels forcing authorities to open the flood gates at the dam.

I happen to live near the imaginary line where the river converges with the Chesapeake Bay. The river continues to rage this morning while water levels appear to climb slowly.

Havre de Grace is in no immediate danger, but I understand that a small town on the opposite shore, Port Deposit, has flooded.

Ed,

I believe that with the record snowfalls in many areas this year, the floods are going to be very widespread once the spring rains start and the thaw commences.

I hope that no one loses their home or life in the flood in your area, or any area for that matter.

Very descriptive pictures....sure does look like  a LOT of water...

My heart goes out to you and your community.  This winter seems to be especially difficult in many parts of the county.  Good luck and tay safe.

Nature can sure be beautiful in it's fury - as long as you don't live in it's path. Hope your town stays safe.

I considered taking my camera to the LI sound for pictures and then thought better of it!  The wind was unbelievable.  I lost cable/phone/Tv for a couple of hours. Several friends of mine lost power alltogether for several hours.  It was a bad storm - lots of flooding and downed trees.  Last year, in the town next toe me there were extensive floods during a major storm in April.  Buildings in Hartsdale had to be evacuated for a couple of weeks when water reached the first story.  FEMA was in Mamaroneck for several weeks (I live near the border of Mamaroneck) So I know how awful floods can be.

i am a big advocate of flood insurance even for us here in the Desert. Only takes a little rain to cause a big flood and an immense amount of damage
