In the current economic environment, a lot has been said about the "R" word, recession. The market keeps slipping and sliding like car tires on ice. The newscasts are full of stories filled with sadness, depression, tears, and anger. The veil of doom and gloom is thick and hanging over us like a huge storm cloud. It seems the air is so thick it hard to breath. In my head, I keep searching for ways to control my thoughts, to stay optimistic.
An old adage says: "It's always darkest before the dawn". I think our country is going through a change. As this process takes place, we are thrown into a whirlwind of things happening to us and around us. Being in the middle of transition, we can't see more that a couple hundred feet in front of us. It's like driving at night through a thick fog. You have to be cautious if you want to stay on the road. So, you drive slower than usual, pay attention, keep your eyes out for the road signs, at least that's what you should do.
And, even though it seems that the darkness is getting deeper and deeper, that it is so dark there's no hope for light... ever...
a ray of morning sun peaks over the horizon...,

and you know you will be OK.
The most beautiful morning comes, bright light hugs the city. Here and now is the new opportunity.

This opportunity is here for everyone to embrace change. When an old building is beyond repair, it gets torn down to make room for brand new, modern beauty. As we go through this process, we have an opportunity to work together, helping each other survive. I firmly believe, times like these bring the best, and sometimes the worst in people. Each of us is in control of our beliefs and our behavior. When each of us makes positive changes in our life, the whole country will experience tiny waves of positive energy. That's why it is critical for us to pull together and work towards the common goal of making this country a better place live.
As much as we always talk about wanting a constant in life: steady flow of business, good money, 78 degree weather, Leave-It-To-Beaver-type family life, etc., it's not realistic. Life is a series of cycles and contrasts. You can't really appreciate good health unless you've gone through an illness. You take sunshine for granted until you've experienced a storm. And, you can't enjoy the beauty of a rainbow until it rained.
In my heart, I carry the rainbow that lights up day. My rainbow brings color to a cloudy day. It makes my troubles seem smaller. Gary Woltal wrote a beautiful post http://activerain.com/blogsview/410833/Are-You-Having-a that inspired me to write this one.

Spring market is here. As nature awakes from winter slumber...,
I vow to do my part and make changes every day. I repeat the words of Og Mandino as my mantra:
"If I feel depressed I will sing.
If I feel sad I will laugh.
If I feel ill I will double my labor.
If I feel fear I will plunge ahead.
If I feel inferior I will wear new garments.
If I feel uncertain I will raise my voice.
If I feel poverty I will think of wealth to come.
If I feel incompetent I will think of past success.
If I feel insignificant I will remember my goals.
Today I will be the master of my emotions".
Like an eagle soaring in the sky, so will we as we emerge on the other side of this crisis victorious and feeling the freedom of new life we deserve.
