Whats in it for me? What the *&&%^((&%^?

I spoke in detail with a mortgage officer today and took a ton of time explaining our program. I told him how we can help him close more loans. I explained in detail how we can also refer customers to him from our advertising. At the end he had the nerve to ask me "So if I refer a client to you what do I get in return?" How about a freaking approved client back. Am I wrong that this just got all over me? The money he would have made on the closing would far supersede any money he would get for the referral. Any opinions on this?

It's too bad so many people out there work on the premise of "What's in it for me?"  It's those bad apples that spoil it for the rest of us.  He's probably one of those that should b e put in jail for predatory lending practices too!

That would piss me off too!

In as situation like that I try to come up with an answer that lets the petitioner know that I think their an asshole for even asking.  Sure, it will alienate them -- but then, he's not likely the person I want to associate with anyway.

How about the chance to stay in business, serve a client, create future business, and stay out of jail?

Once greedy always greedy.  Some people can't or won't change.  You will always run into that.  I run across this type of behavior all of the time.  I would be upset too.

Some people will just NEVER see the big picture! If this was his attitude, you should consider yourself lucky you won't have to deal with him.

I understand how you feel, but as a Realtor, I am constantly being approached by mortgage people  and other vendors who want to me to refer business to them.  When he asked "what's in it for me", maybe he was trying to say that it would be a great business decision for me to refer business to you, but are you willing to also refer business back to me.  Some give and take is always great.  I am always willing to refer great people to my clients.  It's nice to think that they in turn will refer great clients to me.  Just trying to look at it another way.
