What was that noise?

As an Indianapolis Virtual Tour provider I find myself in both occupied and vacant homes during the course of my work week.  I consider myself to be a brave sole and not scared too easily.  I can watch creepy movies and go to haunted houses at Halloween and come away unscathed (although The Exorcist still give me the heebie jeebies).  Anyway, I was doing a tour in a very nice, very secluded, vacant home recently.  As I said it takes alot to get to me but something about this house just gave me the creeps.  I began unpacking my gear and kept hearing strange noises.  It got to the point that I started looking around to see if someone was there.  I even went so far (after confirming I was alone) as to double check all the doors just to make sure they were locked.  Keeping my phone handy and pre-dialed to "911" I started photographing my tour.  The noises continued.  It was then time to go to the unfinished basement.  Here is where my heart really started going.  As I fumbled in the dark to find the light switch I continued to hear the 'moaning' sound.  After shedding light on the subject I finally found that is was the sump pump in the basement making all the scary noises.  I am familiar with sumps but never in my life have I hear one making the sounds that were coming out of this one.  Moral of the story is- Houses that make scary moaning noises may not necessarily be haunted.  I will (try to be) more brave the next time I find myself alone and freaked out.

I love it Melanie.  But seriously, it sounds like you took all the necessary precautions as well- good thinking!  Sometimes it can be a little spooky going into vacant and secluded homes alone.
