First let me say I live and work in South West Florida.
I recently listed a 2 story house that is a pleasure to show. It was well maintained, very clean with updated interior, great curb appeal and priced to sell (and I mean Priced To Sell). When I asked several agents their opinion of the listing they wouldn't even look at it. Their reason - it is a frame built home; one agent litterly threw his hands in the air and said " I would never show a frame home, it will get termites!"; another said "my people want a home that will last so they can hand it down". I was blown away by this attitude. Fortunately this home is now under contract; the buyers agent called to tell me the termite inspection was clean, the inspector commented that framed homes down here have less problems with termites than concrete block homes because framed home owners maintain their homes while concrete owners think their homes are impervious to damage until their framed second story or trusses have issues. I have talked to several agents who have been in this area most of their lives and they love framed homes. They feel these homes do well in high winds because they give alittle. What a difference in attitude!
Agents with a narrow focus, are missing out on a whole section of the real estate market; there are some beautiful framed homes out there. From what I have experienced, the problem is not the construction of the homes, its the attitude of the agents.
Framed homes are all over Florida and have been here for years. I guess Edison and Ford were not as smart as these agents.
