Here's one I had not thought of.  The landlord stripping his house (your house) of everything in sight while you are still living there.  This is the dark corner of the foreclosure business and is becoming more common.  Homeowners stripping a house down to where it is not really livable.  They are even taking the outside cooling units with them and the kitchen sink.  This is really crazy.  It not only hurts the bank but it hurts the area around the homes as well.  The houses become eyesores, take longer to sell and sell at a discount.  Hopefully this round of foreclosures will stay out of Virginia Beach like it has been.

For years, almost every foreclosed home that I've seen exhibited some form of "stripping".  In addition to what you've mentioned, other common things to "make off with" are the Kitchen Cabinets, Bathroom Fixtures, Carpets and sometimes even the Air Handler / oil or gas furnace!

I've even seen 1 where the owners pulled up the Pergo Floors!  I guess "good Luck" with doing that with real hardwood but these people simply "un-locked, disassembled and took their floor with them!

Crazy but true. Great Post.

What a shame!  I have tenants in a home that was foreclosed on, and I told them they should take everything they installed in the home - window blinds, light fixtures, etc.  Normally, those become part of the realty, but...

Wow Margaret, Not sure if you understand that those appliances and blinds belong to the bank once it is foreclosed.  That advice could get you in trouble.
