Handy Cleaning Tips

I thought I would share a few of my handy cleaning tips with you. Feel free to pass them along to your sellers. Window

Dirt:
Layers of dirty film on windows and screens provide a helpful filter against harmful and aging rays from the sun. Call it an SPF factor of 15 and leave it alone.

LampCobwebs:
Cobwebs artfully draped over lampshades reduce the glare from the bulb, thereby creating a romantic atmosphere. If your husband points out that the light fixtures need dusting, simply look confused and exclaim "What? And spoil the mood?" (Or just throw glitter on them &call them holiday decorations)

Pet Hair: Dog with Pillow
Explain the mound of pet hair brushed up against the doorways by claiming you are collecting it there to use for stuffing hand-sewn play animals for underprivileged children. (Also keeps out cold drafts in winter)

Dog at DoorGuests:
If unexpected company is coming, pile everything unsightly into one room and close the door. As you show your guests through your tidy home, rattle the door knob vigorously, fake a growl and say, "I'd love you to see our den, but Fluffy hates to be disturbed and the shots are SO expensive."

Dusting: Dusting
If dusting is REALLY out of control, simply place a showy urn on the coffee table and insist that "This is where Grandma wanted us to scatter her ashes."

Smears on WallsSmears on Walls :

These can be difficult to remove. Simply explain them as Little Annies wall art. If you wash them off, it will hurt her feelings.

General Cleaning: Cleaning
Mix one-quarter cup pine-scented household cleaner with four cups of water in a spray bottle. Mist the air lightly. Leave dampened rags in conspicuous locations. Develop an
exhausted look, throw yourself on the couch and sigh, "I clean and I clean and I still don't get anywhere."

As a last resort, light the oven, throw a teaspoon of cinnamon in a pie pan, turn off oven and explain that you have been baking cookies for a bake sale for a favorite charity and haven't had time to clean...Works every time.

MantleAnother favorite:
I think from Erma Bombeck, always keep several get well cards on the mantle so if unexpected guests arrive, you can say you've been sick and unable to clean. You figure if you can live in it, they can surely stand it for a 30 minute visit!

03/09/2008 12:59 PM by Amy Dawson, Vancouver, WA Realtor (Century 21 Expert Realty)

Thanks for the laughs girl.  I seem to have come down with some kind of ailment and cleaning just ain't happening around here for a few days, lol.

Duane: My husband and daughter frequently call me "Monica" off of the "Friends" sitcom. I can't help it I'm a neat freak! They think I should try these techniques for a while.

Amy: You're welcome. Thanks for stopping by.

Linda: My daughter uses that excuse alot!

Duane: You've got a point!

Jennifer: Luckily my house is only 1400sq feet. I don't think I could keep up with a bigger one!

Tom: Always a pleasure to bring a smile to you're face!

Thank you very much for sharing, I think everyone needs to not sweat the small stuff. My aunty was a clean freak cleaning for hours and had to vacuum every single day...on her death bed she said sorry to her family and said she wishes she spent more time with them instead of being such a B about the house...

03/09/2008 08:34 PM by Shane Sarae, Senior Mortgage Planner (Loan Network LLC)

Shane: I agree. I used to have two mops. One for my floors and one for my walls. I mopped the kitchen every day and the walls at least once a week. Everything had to be in it's place at all times and it drove me nuts when my kids would turn my nic-naks around to annoy me. I've lightened up alot thru the years though. As long as my house is livable and presentable, I don't care. I still want it to be neat and tidy. But it doesn't have to be sterile.

3 OTHER CLEANING TIPS:

1.  Wrap your children in Duck Tape, sticky side out, and let them roll around on carpet.  This way, the floor gets cleaned, the children have winter fun, and you don't have to drag out that noisy vacuum!

2.  Bribe your Children into doing the dishes by letting them make Bubble mustaches and beards while washing those stubborn pots and pans!

3.  To mop tile floors, allow your Children to have a water fight in the Kitchen, with the understanding that they have to clean up the water on the floor when they are done!  (Socked feet work well for this one.)

Stef: Hey, I didn't even think of adding those in. They do work well, don't they! LOL

Lissa... This was cute... Thanks for sharing. I have seen the homes where everything is pilled in one room.

03/11/2008 12:30 AM by Roland Woodworth "Ft. Campbell Area Realtor" (Exit Realty Clarksville)

You would think this would be a no-brainer for people to do, it's sad they have to be told to do it.

I like your style.  I like the 'get well cards' idea!  This way your friends will feel guilty if they do not offer to grab a sponge.
