Mesa, Arizona - Consumers Accessing Crime Statistics via the Web!

burglar As of about four months ago, Mesa introduced a website that tracks crime patterns for the Mesa police and for its residents. A visitor can actually select a portion of Mesa and view and overlap maps dotted with crimes. This website is comprehensive in that it allows the viewer to find areas and neighborhoods where criminals are known to be.

The website -- www.cityofmesa.org/police/COMP-STAT/statistics.aspx -- or type in www.cityofmesa.org/policeto access the homepage. On the right side, you will see the "COMPSTAT/Police Crime Statistics" link under the "hotlinks" header. The public can click on crimes such as robberies, rapes, aggravated assaults, view markers on a map indicating where the crime occurred, and the markers are color-coded to show if the incident occurred during day time or at night. police car

Additionally, the maps can be overlapped to see what is going on in those areas. This is a great tool for the police as well as for those home buyers wanting to check out areas in which to live. I also think it's great for homeowners to check out what's going on in their neighborhoods.

That is a very nice website, do some people stay clear of the superstition district just because of it's name?. Thank you for sharing!

Leslie, to answer your question? Superstition is a great area - I actually live in that area. Typically, the higher crime areas are in the Dobson area, or further west Mesa 'cause it's just older. ;-) Superstition was named after the Superstition Mountain which is just east of me. I wrote an entire blog on the Superstition Mountain and the story behind how it got its name if your interested. ;-)

Teri, that is a great tool for home-buyers. We have something similar for sexual offenders but I'm not familiar with one for crime statistics.

But don't YOU look at it, Teri. Because if you do, you could be held liable for disclosing those crime statistics to buyers. That's why I give out the URLs for those sites, but I never look up a home for a buyer or even spend time on them. If I have the knowledge, then I am required by law to disclose it.

I currently live in the south(I hate it). I am very interested in relocting to AZ(me and some friends). I've heard some very conflicting things about Mesa and Phoenix specifically crime and the school system, activities, Cost of living, housing and diversity. Can someone provide me with some insight on living in these areas and AZ in general?? Some of us will be looking to purchase homes when we relocate. Thanks to everyone in advance for your help!:-)
