The new Encinitas branch of the San Diego County library has opened at 540 Cornish Drive above the downtown are of Encinitas, with views of the town as well as the blue Pacific about ½ mile away.
Opening day was on February 23, 2008, and several thousand residents stopped by to tour, check out books, and enjoy musical performances, children’s games and, of course, the formal ribbon cutting ceremony.
This new 27,000 SF facility, built for around $20 million, has a large balcony/outdoor patio as well. This spectacular facility is the 3rd largest of the 33 San Diego County branches. With more than 90,000 books, the new library is a terrific addition for the town’s residents.
Dramatic, contemporary architecture, soaring curved ceilings, walls of glass offering fabulous views of the ocean, an expansive outside patio for reading or sitting in the sun, and of course aisles of books create a welcome environment. There is the usual stuff and what you would expect of a state-of-the-art library – a children’s area, lots of computer stations for Internet access and researching the library holdings, group study rooms and much more.
Stop by and enjoy! You couldn’t find a nicer place to put up your feet with a great book and enjoy the view.

How far we have come. Some years ago, my computer went down and I went to the local LIbrary to use the computer to pull my e-mail. That was about 10 years ago. They had one computer and it was available by appointment. Three days to get a half hour on the Computer. My computer was fixed before I could get a seat.
Times have changed.
I love libraries. I spent my youth in them. My children visited the local library from about agent 2. Now that we have computers and the Internet, they're not so popular. But, the Lovettsville Library still has "story time" for the little ones.
