Friendly notice to my fellow Active Rainers - local market reports are for CLIENTS

By
Real Estate Agent with Better Homes & Gardens Kansas City Homes

This is just a friendly reminder to my fellow Active Rainers...

When you are entering a blog post that is a market report of your local area, post it for clients so that agents will be able to sort whether or not they want to see it.

I understand that some agents may like to see these market reports of other areas.... When you look at blogs on AR, you can click at the top of the page to sort if you want to see blogs geared towards professionals, consumers, or both.  When these local market and subdivision reports are put in the professional section, there is no way to sort them out of the list.

I do not believe that local market reports were intended to be put in the professional category since AR does not give you an option for local market reports under the professional tab, they do give you that option under the consumer tab.  Do many of you really want to know what the average homes sold for this month in the subdivsions that I farm?

Here are the buttons you need to check if your post is intended for clients only:

Michael I don't do market reports because I am not a statistical kind of person but for me I like to see what is happening around the world and these reports give me that information.  I don't usually comment on them but I do find them useful.  I agree they are more for the client than the real estate professional but I do think they have a value and do like to see them.  I am gonna park and see what others have to say.

Hi Linda,

I understand that some people may like to see these market reports of other areas.  When you look at blogs on AR, you can click at the top of the page to sort if you want to see blogs geared towards professionals, consumers, or both.  I think this way you would be able to see the market reports if you wanted but I don't think the intent of the professional post section is for local market statistics.  When these reports are put in the professional section, there is no way to sort them out of the list.

LOL, you might be right Michael and I see your point I really do and do know that I can sort what I want to see just it isn't that big a deal to me where these are posted.  If I don't want to know I don't click just that simple really.

I hope you are having an excellent day either way!

oh yeah...great morning here in Kansas City.  It doesn't really bother me that much (I guess just enough to post about it).  I often like to skim through the topics on the front page when I get a minute and don't really like it when all of them are market reports.  I want to learn and communicate more about the business on the professional post side.

It's a gorgeous 52 degrees here.  Slight overcast but other than that it is a nice day.  We had geese land in the pond but they left before I could get to take pictures.

I am trying to focus more of my writing on the professional side being motivationally integrated and doing localism pieces.  I can see what you are saying though cause the ones that get me are the ones that talk about things that are just irrellevant to real estate.  Like I said though if the first little blurb doesn't interest I don't click.

Ok now I am off got showings this afternoon and a bpo to get done plus I still haven't gotten my blog finished for today, lol.  I think twitterpation of the weather is making me want to play and not work.

"Nothing more than a Market Report"....I've seen some pretty incredible market reports posted here that provide exceptional value for consumers. But I agree that they should be categorized for Consumers and targeted for your specific location.

Thanks Rich,

I wasn't sure if I was the only one who thought this.  I agree, they are especially informative for consumers and, I know where to find them if I want to read them (under the consumer posts). The great thing about AR is it allows one to sort information so easily if it is categorized correctly!

Michael I saw the response by Don prior to you removing it and while he put more elocution into my point on the benefits for others to see, I in no way tried to make my email sound as if I had written the post.  I mearly stated that I was sorry our casual banter offended him because it is never my intent to offend anyone.  I think that is why I stated what I did about the necessity and liking to see what was happening in other markets more in a casual nature.

I think this information is pertinent in the professional realm if we are to know what is going on in other parts of the country and can speak to a client that needs a referral to that area.  I for one know what is going on in towns that I am not comfortable with servicing near my area because I do have people call me about those areas.  In that matter I stay on top of who will provide that person with the best quality of service for the area so that I may be able to place a referral with confidence.

While sorting is easy for us I do see Don's point on the consumer not always knowing exactly where to go and having this information on the main dashboard would benefit them.  This is a very large site and can be extremely intimidating for those that do not know how to navigate all its little intracacies.

Now I am off to do my work and will leave the rest to the powers that be!

Don - you need to relax just a tad. I'm not sure why Michael would delete your comment, but it's his blog, and he can do with it what he wishes. And if members want to carry on casual conversations within their blog post, again, that's their perogative.

My original point was that Market Reports have value. They can provide some really helpful information for consumers.

Like listings, I think Market Reports are primarily intended for consumers and should be categorized accordingly. That is where they have the most value. If our members want to access this information, it's not difficult to search specific locations of interest.

Either way, if you don't like a particular post showing up in the professional category, simply move on to the next article.

Just to give everyone a heads up, everyone is welcome to post your comment on here, no matter if you agree with me or not.  Yes, I have now removed 2 posts from one gentleman who had a differing view then me.  Not because his view was different then mine, but because his post was rude to others on this blog (including myself), and not written in a constructive and/or professional manner.
