Beware Of Ice Dams!

By
Real Estate Agent with New Star Real Estate
  • It is not too late and not  so late that you do not need  to worry about ice dams on your roof.
  • In Vernal, Utah we are starting to thaw and although people have been having trouble during the snow storms it is now more of a worry with the spring thaw.  Our snow fall has exceed the average.
  • I am not a advocate of getting on the roof to slide off there is a need some years to take care of some of the snow build up.
  • I am dealing with a home that just closed and when the new owners moved in the kitchen wall was wet and water leaking down in the cabinets.  The sheetrock is soaked in some areas .  This is not a welcome to your new  home  event for the buyer and not too great for the seller either that will be taking care of the repair.
  • The snow melts and forms a dam and then the water backs up and goes behind the shingles.
  • I decided instead of just telling you about the problem I would add a site for more information http://extenseion.umn.edu/distribution/housingand%20clothing/DK1068.html
  • I hope we get my clients problem taken care of but as of this morning more water is coming in.....

This is a very important message - many homes in our area have more issues with the melt and refreeze then they do with the actual snow - good job in reminding people
