OK, two things. First this applies to the entire U.S. Second, before any wise cracks, I've already been told my light bulb
went out years ago. I'm not sure, but I think the guy that said that is working as part of a Bee Gees tribute act on the Vegas Strip.
Seriously, I've been surprising a number of people who haven't heard about the phase out of incandescent light bulbs beginning in 2012. It starts with the 100W and ends with 40W in Jan of 2014.
This was all part of the Energy Bill signed into law on Dec. 19, 2007. It also includes a further energy reduction of bulbs by 70% in 2020. Florescents and halogens are already available and more work is being done to develop LEDs. GE says it is also working on a stingier incandescent bulb that it hopes to have available by 2010, so they may not disappear entirely, just yet.
This may also be something to consider if purchasing any new fixtures, since at least some of these bulbs may have a different look than the traditional bulbs.

That is interesting - I have bought some of the new bulbs and yikes, a little pricey to say the least. But our electric bills have been going down as well.
