JADE FLOWER LEI

At the Haiku Ho'olaulea 2008 at the Haiku Community Center last weekend, we ran into someone making leis from JADE flowers.   These incredible looking flower garlands are a traditional Hawaiian custom.  A lei is worn around the neck.

The flowers grow in long bunches from a climbing vine that entwines through a tree branches.  These ones are growing in the Waipio area along the north shore of Maui Hawaii - in the Haiku district.

That's the real color of the flowerets.

Hi Georgina!  I love the jade flower leis and remember learning how to make them (along with the ginger leis!).  Just exquisite.  Thanks for the aloha early this morning.

Beautiful pictures and flowers.  I was never into native flowers until I mover to The Florida Keys.  We have some beautiful landscaping here too.

Just amazing Georgina! You have such terrific flowers in Hawaii - and you take wonderful shots of them also - what an unusual color that blue is.

Hi Lesley - I hope you can find one, it's kind of a specialty item.  A lot of stores carry leis - Star Market, Longs, Safeway, Big K-Mart, WalMart, etc.  Hope you have a great vacation!
