Last night I was invited to attend an investor's group meeting. I must admit, I've never attended one before. The total lack of understanding on how to invest in real estate properly amazed me. It's not that it was a bad group they were just a little misguided in my opinion. You know the type...it's all about me, thinking its O.K. to take advantage of sellers when the chips are down. I know most think it's probably just desserts for the sellers. Many sellers took advantage of the buyers when it was a sellers market. To some people this makes sense, but I've always felt "two wrongs don't make a right".
Last night I heard a no-nonsense speaker discussing this very subject to this group of investors. His whole speech was about changing your perspective. He was riveting. Talk about a room being quiet. He was able to deliver this message without a riot breaking out. That group had to sit and think about his words and how they applied to themselves. I'm sure some got it, but some did not. He passed out a stack of books for the investors to read. How many do you think will take the time to at least skim through the information in them? Sometimes opportunity knocks, but we are such know-it-all's we don't answer the door because we think we know what's on the other side.
Changing ones perspective doesn't happen overnight. We are conditioned at an early age. We only know what's been showed to us by other people. That's why it's important to take stock of who we're hanging out with. Guess what I'm doing as soon as I post this blog? I'm cracking open those books and preparing myself to change my perspectives.
