The Washington DC Meet-Up Was A Hoot
There is nothing scarier than pushing oneself out of ones comfort zone and boy did I do that today. I drove by myself into Washington DC to attend the meet-up put together by Pat Kennedy.
Now we were lucky here in my neck of the woods as we had 5 meet-ups to attend. One in Crofton MD, one in Arlington VA, one in Baltimore MD, one in Gaithersburg MD and this one in Washington DC. I wish I could have attended them all but alas Crofton and DC were the only two my schedule would allow. OK...back to the story
I am not a DC driver at all. Let me repeat that. I am NOT a DC driver. The whole ideal of doing so puts me in a cold sweat and a stress level that is close to fear. But I was damned and determined to go so I set my GPS and off I went.
The GPS was doing great, the traffic was being nice to me and the rain that was called for today wasn't a heavy downpour so I started to relax a bit as I was off to a good start. That was until my GPS had me turn on a street in Washington that had either a stop sign or a traffic light at the end of every block. For 4 miles I rode this street stopping and going for the next 25 minutes. Yes that's right 25 minutes for 4 miles. Needless to say I was late for the meet-up and a bit stressed to boot. Finally I made the turn on Wisconsin Ave where the meet-up was being held. 3/10th of a mile. Yay!! But wait there was no parking available. What now? Then I remembered Pat telling me to just turn on a side street and park there. Two blocks later I found a parking space and headed to the restaurant.
The restaurant was called Catus Cantina and was quite an interesting place. Once inside and finding where all were sitting the restroom was calling my name. Off I went and along the way I passed this armadillo. Interesting creature to have in a restaurant and definitely brought a smile. Once in the bathroom I noticed the normal table where little ones can be changed. But wait!!! This one said Baby Hanging Station. Do what??? Really??? I guess this is where all the little ones are put who act up in the restaurant. LOL.
Back at the table and settled in the stories, friendships and laughs abounded. Though the meet up was small it was a hoot as we each shared funny stories and bits and pieces of our lives. Of course I shared the photos I took in my restaurant wanderings too.
It was fun to sit and laugh after the stressful drive out of my comfort zone. How Pat works that market is beyond me. I would have given up real estate before I even got a good start.
The meet-up ended all too soon for me but rush hour starts early in DC and I had to trust, my not so trusty GPS, to get me out of there and back on familiar ground.
I must say this was one of the most adventuresome meet-ups I have ever been too and you know what? Stepping out of my comfort zone was well worth the stress and cold sweats. I really had a great time and I think I will even do it again when meet-up time rolls around in Washington DC once again.
