Secret Life of a Realtor... by the Numbers
Kathy provides excellent information that is pretty surprising if you have'nt thought about it. I am seeing young agents entering the market while many aging agents are still working hard. I can not imagine working at least forty hours a week. I work more that that as my joy is not the business forty hour week. If you are sitting in the office all day you are missing a change to be active and productive. You may not have an appointment but you can do client follow up as well as getting out and about previewing new listings. If you don't have an appointment you can work hard on your marketing or holding open houses. Sucessful agents always find something to do.
A recent article from Inman News by Seth Price reveals some interesting numbers about the life of a Realtor. Several of the stats really surprised me and others were expected.
Did you know that:
- The median age for Realtors is 57, up from 56 last year. (Where are the young agents?)
- 58% of agents said they spend most of their work hours in the office. (Not showing homes or previewing?)
- 19% said they do not formally measure their performance in any way. (How am I doing?)
- 49% work 40 hours or more, 22% work 30 hours or less. ( Which one are you?)
I expected that most agents spend their money on their transportation and worship technology, and they count their smart phone as their number one techno tool.
Did you know that 78% of agents were on the job six months or more before they could support themselves financially? No wonder the agents are older, young people want jobs that pay the bills... right now!
What do you think?
