There are several aspects of the real estate industry that Realtors encounter while performing their duties. These involve:
Location- Market Conditions
- Economic Conditions
- Property Prices
- Property & Listing Exposure
- Negotiations and Contingency Management
Of course most are aspects that you as a Realtor have little or no control over. However, there are two very important pieces of the puzzle that you can influence, and which can mean the difference between success or failure in the world of real estate. The most important thing you can do for the success of your career is know what you’re good at (and can manage on your own), and what your weaknesses are (that need to be outsourced to more experienced professionals).
Most Realtors will probably be expected to handle negotiations and consider their own contingency clauses (possibly with the help of their parent firm). But marketing is something that many real estate agents struggle with and often leave to chance, especially in this, the information and technology age.
Marketing is no small or static industry, yet it seems to be the one that is so often overlooked by the real estate industry. There are several facets (many of which change as regularly as technology does), all which take a great amount of study, trial and error to master. Most real estate agents have probably had basic training in local marketing techniques, and perhaps even a bit on Internet-based lead generation. However, Realtors we’ve spoken with have expressed that marketing seems to be one of their weakest points, especially online marketing. If you’re a Realtor and feeling this way regarding marketing, the best advice we can suggest is to know when to call in a professional. Marketing is a task that can be easily outsourced, allowing you to focus on what you do best: building relationships with your current and potential clients, showing your properties and negotiating offers. Don’t fall for the same mistake that slows the careers of so many Realtors. Know your strengths, and be willing to outsource your weaknesses. Allowing specialists will ensure that the job is done effectively, giving you an overall more professional appearance. So if you’re unsure on how to proceed, are looking for more innovative ways to promote your listings or lack the time necessary to launch full marketing campaigns on your own, don’t be afraid to outsource!
