Just a day trip away from Stanislaus County - Part 11- Pescadero
There are lots of things to do in and around Stanislaus County. Today's trip is southwest of Stanislaus County to the town of Pescadero and the Pigeon Point Lighthouse. Pescadero is a very small town on California's Central Coast about 45 miles south of San Francisco. Just south of Pecadero is the Pigeon Point Lighthouse State Park.
The drive along Highway 1 is beautiful. There are numerous state beaches along the way. One of my favorite stops is at Pescadero State Beach.
After a stop in downtown Pescardero at Duarte's Tavern for some Green Chili Soup we traveled a few miles down the highway to Pigeon Point Lighthouse. The lighthouse has been in operation since 1872. The lighthouse is 115 feet tall, making it one of the tallest in the U.S.
The lighthouse is not accessible at this time since it needs renovations. There are easily accessible trails around the lighthouse and down to the water. The boardwalk around and behind the lighthouse offers some great views of the ocean. Between January and April migrating whales can be seen from these vantage points.
If you are ever in the area I highly recommend the drive down Highway 1 to Pescadero and the Pigeon Point Lighthouse State Park.
