Organizing Closets Made Easy in Suffolk Virginia

Now that you have moved to your newly bought short sale home in Suffolk Virginia, you will want to organize all of your belongings and rid of all the clutter. And what better way than having beautifully organized closets? Euphoria!

Let me help you get rid of those clutter, after all “there’s a place for everything and everything in its place”, right? This ancient proverb from the 1800’s says it all. It might sound more like wishful thinking, but believe me when I say this can be achieved, and it doesn’t even have to cost much. Let me list down these easy as pie six steps you can take over the weekend to get your closet in its glory.

1. Make an Inventory of everything in your closet. You may have heard this being said by organizing experts on TV quite a lot of times by now, but there’s truth in those words. Do a quick review of what’s in your closet. A closet can’t be rightly organized if there are items in there that you haven’t touched since time immemorial.

As agonizing as it may seem, go through the entire contents of your closet to give you a truthful account of items lurking in the midst of your keepers. Take stock of what you can donate, and those you can toss, and start from scratch. It can be liberating to be unburdened of a bundle of useless stuff that weigh you down and overcrowd what you value.

As soon as you have figured out what you want to keep from the ones you can dispose of, adjust your shelves as needed, like these closets. Baskets can be very useful in keeping smaller items from getting lost. Installing a tie and belt rack provides efficiency as well.

2. Maximize your empty wall or door space. Free up areas of walls, and make use of the insides your doors for towel hooks, towel bars or dowels. You might have envisioned this already when you viewed the home before buying it.

Tip: Hardware doesn't have to be complicated to work on. Search your garage and you just might have all you need in there. Choose an appropriately sized hardware that can support the weight of what you intend to put in it.

3. Add some light to it. Proper lighting is vital to locating anything inside your closet. You may find a single overhead light in newer homes, while there may not be any light at all in older homes. It might be best to have an electrician add shelf lighting, but this will not be cheap. Your Suffolk Virginia realtor would be able to give you recommendations on this matter. You can also stick-on or screw-in battery-operated LED lights inside your shelves to accomplish the same effect, but at a fraction of the cost.

4. Itemize and segregate all like items. Picture your bedroom closet the same way you would your desk files. You’d never achieve anything at work had those files not been organized methodically (by client name, date, order of urgency etc.).

The same concept should apply for your closet, but with a touch different purposes. Your closet should provide you with the tools to look proper and presentable to get you out of the house the most efficient way possible. A great way to achieve this is by grouping like items altogether (styles, uses, colors, and occasions) to make your daily outfit hunt quicker.

5. Invest in quality matching clothing hangers. Uniformed hangers make finding your clothes such a breeze, as it helps keep each clothing article at the same level. It also subdues the disordered look your closet gets when you have a collection of dissimilar hangers.

Tip: Those dry cleaner wire hangers that have accumulated over the years needs to be tossed. They can’t be good for your clothes, as they make shoulder indentations and turn out of shape over time. Your dry cleaner will likely take them back to reuse if they are still in a good enough shape.

6.  Make it possible for you to use the top shelves. Not everybody can be tall enough to reach the top of your closet, but even those of us who are short deserve access to our closets' full proportions.

If you're not up to setting up a rolling ladder, a cool stool would be a great investment. They are easily available, are reasonably inexpensive and make a huge difference in getting to those out-of-reach areas.
