Tips on Taking Care of Trees at Home

    Do you have a tree in your front or back yard? Do wish to make more appealing to your guests or to your children while keeping it healthy and alive for years to come? Here are some tips on taking care of trees at home.

  1.  Let's start by having your trees pruned. Have your tree(s) examined by a professional (like arborists) that keeps check on dead wood, insect related issues, and other sorts of problems. It's advisable to leave tree pruning to the pros but if you want to do it yourself, make sure to cut branches at the nodes (it's the point where the branch connect to another branch). Then cut at a downward angle. Do this late in fall or winter as the sap of the tree isn't circulating sap that much which makes the trees have less stress.
  2.  Take of already dead or troublesome branches. These kinds of branches produce all sorts of problems for trees. Aside from looking hideous, these makes trees produce less sugar which makes it attractive to insects and more vulnerable to structural damage.
  3.  Another technique is to remove some branches from the tree's outermost area to allow light in and lessens wind resistance. This tips on taking care of trees at home is called crown thinning. It helps the trees be more structurally sound during storms or windy days.
  4.  Avoid topping (or taking out of large branches). This can significantly injure the tree(s) if done in excess. If topping has occurred continue doing this because sprouts will start to grow. But this will be prone to insect related problems.
  5.  If your tree(s) are still young, take extra care of it. They need more water and other necessities compared to matured tress. Make sure you're using the right kind of soil for that type of tree. Also it's advisable to prune your trees at an early stage so that it does not have poor structure later on.
