FAQ: How do I get rid of bats in the attic of my house?

how do I get rid of batsI was asked by clients, "How do I get rid of bats in the attic of my house?"

Well, I know you are not suppose to kill them, and there are ways to get them out of your house.  Getting rid of bats requires sealing up the house using hardware, cloth, screens and one-way doors. You want to let the bats out of the house without letting them back in...check out this video ... How to Get Rid of Bats

Bats can be a nuisance and scary for most people.  Enjoy the below Bat Poetry.....

Bats (The Good Guys), by Virginia Calder

On a warm summer night, from towns east to west,
The mosquitoes will bite without stopping to rest.

But at twilight the bats are out ready to eat
Those annoying mosquitoes before they retreat.

Echolocation is a bats way
Of sending out echoes that bounce off its prey.

When sound waves return to its ears a bat knows
Where a flying bug is and can track where it goes.

As they zoom through the night with eyes so keen,
They swoop to the ground to eat bugs they've seen.

One little brown bat will often devour
Hordes of mosquitoes in just an hour.

There's never a danger when bats are in flight.
It's bugs, not people they attack in the night.

The farmer is pleased because bats are hi pride,
They prove much better than a pesticide.

I know they serve a purpose but eeeeh!.  There is no way I could sleep in a house while listening to tiny bat wings beating up my rafters.

Fortunately, we have not needed to deal with bats in attics. The video could be helpful for those that have a problem.

Rebecca - I love the poem and the video is great! No one really wants to deal with a bat trapped in the attic, but it does happen! This is good consumer information and for anyone who owns a home!

Thanks! I really enjoyed your post a lot!!!

Rebecca, I learned something new today. Thank you for sharing! I've never had to deal with bats in the attic and I hope it stays that way. They're much more fun to just watch at dusk.

Rebecca I have to admit I am scared of bats. I have heard that if they are flying around and you get a squirt gun and squirt them with water they will fall to the floor and cant fly until dry. Then you throw a towel over them and take them outside and free them. They are unhurt and can go about eating insects which is good. They are a protected species.

Great (scary) blog.

Paula, a friend of mine had bats and finally got rid of them, but they came back..now they are gone. Since they are a protected species you can not kill them.

John,  now you know :)

Debbie, I’m with you on this one!

Roger, hope I do not ever have to deal with bats!

Dorie, Echolocation was a new word for me as well.

Rebecca, we once had a bat in the house.  Luckily, my ex-husband was the one home to deal with shooing it out and not me!  He opened all the windows then chased it around with a broom.  It must have been an odd sight.  So glad I was not there for that!
