There are structurally deficient bridges in Chester County?

By
Real Estate Sales Representative with RE/MAX Preferred RS152252A

I saw an article today in the Daily Local News about our area bridges.  There are currently 36 bridges deemed structurally deficient in the county and they will now either have weight restrictions places on them or have their current limits lowered within the year.   This will, according to the article, be the first time any such restrictions have been placed on local bridges.

This action is supposed to minimize wear and tear and extend the life of the bridges.  With funds tight, authorities are hoping to slow down the deterioration.

The article didn't name the bridges.  I will post more information if it becomes available.

You can read the full article here.

All the bridges in the north East have heavy wear from the road salt and require maintenance to extend the life of the bridge.

Good luck and success.

Yeah I would want to know where they are if I were local.  We have a few, but they are on back roads that can really be avoided.  Scarey stuff.  And very cool that you are keeping your town informed about it too.

Hi Susan...Unfortunately there are bridges and other type of infrastructure that are suffering from years of neglect or minimum maintenance. One way or the other we will have to pay.

They say that every dollar of home maintenance that is not done will eventually cost $100 to correct. It is no doubt the same for our country's infrastructure. Meanwhile it is posing safety issues in some instances.

Susan, Our local area has a many years debate going on about replacing a major bridge over the Ohio River from downtown Cincinnati to Kentucky.  It carries I-71 and I-75 traffic and is functionally obsolete, no break down lanes, beyond capacity, etc.  Talk about a challenge, you need two states to agree plus the feds, then where is the money going to come from?  Toll road or not?  I suspect 10 years from now they may STILL be arguing over it without resolution.
