Labor Day Events in Lake Tahoe Truckee

P2340406

Labor Day is almost here! It is a U.S. Federal Holiday, honoring the workers, that is always celebrated on the first Monday in September. In 2013, the holiday falls on Monday, September 2, 2013.

Just like Memorial Day in the Truckee and Lake Tahoe area signifies the opening of the Lakes and Beaches in the area, Labor Day, signifies that the closing of the Lakes and Beaches is near. The Donner Lake Property Owners Private Beach, located at Donner Lake next to the public West End Beach, officially closes for the season on September 29, 2013. New this year, Donner Lake residents can purchase a gate key so that they can use the beach in the off seasons.  For residents of Tahoe Donner, their Tahoe Donner Marina and Beach Club at Donner Lake, officially closes on October 6, 2013.

If you are a Truckee resident, it’s always a great idea to do your grocery shopping ahead of the Labor Day crowds coming into town for the Labor Day Weekend.  Also, be sure to allow plenty of extra time to get to where you are going, as there will be more cars than normal on the road.

There is always lots of things to do in the Truckee area, and lots of events in the surrounding areas. Labor Day traditionally has some fantastic sales events happening, so it’s a great time to look for Winter Sports Gear and get a jump on your Christmas Shopping.  Some events to consider over the Labor Day weekend are:

For Beer Lovers – The 24th Annual Foam Fest is happening on Saturday August, 31st from 2-6pm at the Village of Squaw Valley, where you can sample over 50 craft beers. This is a fundraiser for the Disabled Sports USA Far West Non-Profit Organization. The event will feature some rockin’ blues music and will hold the famous “hit the slopes” raffle which will feature great prizes including season passes, lift tickets, skis, snowboards and winter gear!

For Wine Lovers – You’ll want to attend the final Northstar Village Wine Walk of the summer, on Saturday, August 31st from 3pm -6pm. The event features Wine and Food Samplings throughout the Village, and will include a Commemorative Wine Glass. The event will feature wines from South America, and there will also be live music.

They will be featuring wine from 40 different Northern California vineyards. There will be live music on 2 different stages, as well as a silent auction and raffle. This is a fundraiser for the Can Do Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

Labor Day Sidewalk Sale in the Village at Squaw Valley on Friday, August 30, through Monday, September 2. Find the best deals on everything you need for the upcoming winter season!

If you are into rafting, Truckee River Rafting located in Tahoe City will be open for their final weekend over the Labor Day Weekend, and will be open through Tuesday, September 3rd, 2013 . This is a great family fun activity to enjoy the outside!

Over at Lake Tahoe, Tahoe City is celebrating their 150th year, so there is lots going on in the town over the weekend. Sunday, is the final Concerts on Common Beach summer series starting earlier at 3pm. On Monday, there will be a Labor Day sidewalk sale.
