Farmer's Market in Olympia - As We Shift Into Fall

By
Industry Observer

I got to head down to Olympia Farmer's Market a couple of days ago with a past client who has become a dear friend.  We decided it was time to catch up with each other's lives and what better place to do that than the market!  We could combine some browsing, some shopping, some snacking - and some time enjoying the sunny day.

This time of year, you can feel the pull of fall coming closer and summer edging away from us.  But the Farmers Market is still full of summer delights in the form of fruit, veggies and flowers.

We taste tested a number of types of peaches and nectarines before loading up our bags.  They are just at the peak of yumminess where you will end up with peach juice running down your chin as you bite into them.  And the fresh local corn had me instantly rethinking dinner plans so we could have some corn as a featured part of our meal.

I love the pepper stand where one side features all the varieties that are mild - and then the side that is HOT.  Yes, capitol H O T - hot!  Even those colors make my mouth tingle with the spicy goodness they offer.

Sometimes when I visit the Farmers Market I am on a mission to pick up some fresh salad greens, or maybe some fruit, or bread - and then I am on my hurried way.  But this visit to the market was really nice because we made it a leisurely time to stroll through, browsing our way, tasting here and there, but not hurrying at all.

The booths of artwork captured us both for a while, as we admired, asked the artists questions about their technique, and as I tried to picture exactly how one particular picture would look on one of my walls.... Hmmmm.  I finally decided that I couldn't decide, but I've got the artist's card so I can browse some more on her website before buying...

Finally we collected some tempting treats from the bakery stands, and found ourselves a sunny spot at one one of the picnic tables in front of the band stand.  How can you beat snacking on a delectable pastry while visiting with a friend and listening to music from the band playing about 15 feet away?  And just relaxing in the sunshine before the summer flies away.

Hi Kathy - they are so much fun to visit and to shop for fresh food. It's a great way to support local farmers and eat well too!
