Realtors are license Real Estate Agents, but not all Real Estate Agents are Realtors.

Why?

Realtors have chosen to before a part of their local and state board who is the National Association of Realtors.

What is the difference being a part of the association?

By join the local and National Association the agent has chosen to hold them self to a higher ethical standard that a real estate agent. 

What Powers Do Associations Have?

Association set the standards required at state level and local level.  Realtors refusing to adhere to these standards face can face disciplinary action from the Associationn.

Can Eveyone use the R sign?

No only Realtors can legally use the R sign. 

Does My Broker Have To Be A Realtor?

If an agents' broker is a Realtor then the agent has to be a Realtor too.
