The Overwhelming Power of Love

I came across this story I am about to share with you, and it just sort of reinforced what all of us intrinsically know…love is a powerful force in the universe. Every now and then, we hear about someone lifting a car or tractor to free a loved-one pinned under the object. Afterwards, everyone is at a loss to explain how something like that could even happen. You look at the 2,000 pound object, and then look over at the 150 pound person and you are baffled…because it defies logic. On paper, it can’t be done. Yet, it happened.

Our world is filled with stories like what I described above. Stories where love dictated the outcome, here is one such story.

Ruthie and Harold Knapke had been together for more than 65 years, when Ruthie became terminally ill. According to one of the couple’s daughters, when they explained to their dad that mom didn’t have much longer to live; he became agitated for a day or two, then a calm came over him. The daughter said she felt like her father had decided that he would go with her.

They died just 11 hours apart…him dying first. Harold was 91-years old, and Ruthie was 89 when they passed away. They both died in the same nursing home room they shared the final two months of their lives.

I can just imagine God granting Harold his wish to die first so he could be standing at the gates of Heaven when the love of his life arrived.

In a world on the brink of war once again, it is these kinds of stories that give us hope that the world can be wonderful place, if we were just to let love have its rightful place in our hearts.

The following Bible passage, John 14:2, seems a fitting ending to this story. I truly believe they reside together again in a place where there is nothing but love. Seems fitting doesn’t it?

Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2"In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3"If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.…

Thomas, it sure will be a homecoming out of this world for each of the faithful followers of the Lord Jesus Christ.
