Chicagoland Home Staging understands that three is one of the most pleasing numbers on the eye. It is a widely known fact that odd numbers are the key to a good design. Look around at nature and you'll find it represented everywhere. This is even why four leaf clovers are so lucky. They are incredibly rare because three is the natural order of things.
Artwork and photos in your home staging design.
By expanding artwork to the width of the object it is hung over, the impact is stronger. This creates a solid reference point for the eye to be drawn to. Using the same colors as the bedding and pillows in the photo below, it blends in and creates a strong impression.
Dimensions are important to create a balance of space. In the photo below we used three smaller pieces to create a longer rectangle, giving the impression of a long wall and allowing the draperies to create height and drama. By keeping the height the same as the photo over the sofa, and crisp, sophisticated black frames with white matting, the look draws your eye across the room.
In this photo below we've used the same triple print set to match the geometric patterns in the lampshade and throw pillows.
In this last photo, we have used three photos to add height to a small hallway wall, carrying the eye from the family room to the dining room.
While it is common to see artwork grouped with two pieces, consider three next time you are presented with a wider surface like a sofa, headboard, or fireplace and watch how the impact is shifted.
