Thanks to Kristin for this great blog. Using other search engines besides Google is very important to know. Also, it's wonderful that the more we Google our name, the higher it gets on the ratings. These are very handy tips to remember!

Why would anyone want to "Google" themselves? Yes I am using Google as a verb and I Google myself weekly if not daily. Plus I add words like Realtor, the city I work in and anything else that seems appropriate.
The more I Google my name, the higher on the search engines it will go.
Words to Google with your name:
Realtor
Real Estate Agent
ActiveRain
Homes
Homes in (your city or community)
real estate
short sales
Do you want yourself to stand out from the crowd? Do you have a common name? There are things you can do to stand out from others like dropping a letter in your name or just adding your middle initial. Be consistant though so if you change something, make sure you do it everywhere; Facebook, Blogs, Twitter, Your Web, plus anywhere and everywhere your name shows up.
Googling your name will let you see what is out there. Did someone write something negative? It is a good way to see who has the same name. (My name shows up on a popular tattoo website but the girl has her picture and it is definitely not me). So see what is there.
Add yourself to TripAdvisor, Yelp and Angie's List? Make sure you use your Realtor name if you want people to see what you are saying but remember you might not want to write something negatively. Remember, if you can't say something nice it is better not to say anything at all.
And do you always stick to the same search engine? Maybe you should try a couple of different ones. Here are the top 5 search engines.
1. Google- The king of Serge Engines
2. Bing
3. Yahoo
4. Ask (ask Jeeves)
5. Aol.
I am a constant Googler as I Google everything; shows I miss on TV, Books, News, Politics, How-To sites, Movies, Phone Numbers, HOA Companies, Real Estate related Services, Addresses, Subjects I am interested in like real estate news, Locations, Maps, My Listings, and the list just goes on and on. So if I am doing this and I presume you are doing it too, it is a good indicator that millions of people are Googling too so get your name out there so these Googlers will find you.
