I joined the NRA (National Rifle Association) last week. I'm not a hunter. I'm not a gun collector. However, I do believe that our second amendment right to own and bear arms is important. The criminals will always find a way to get guns and ammo. So as a law abiding female, I want to be able to do what I feel is necessary to protect myself.
Colorado has a big election this week that will determine whether two State Senators that supported legislation to further restrict peoples rights to own guns will be recalled.
It is a historic election because the senators didn't do anything illegal, it just appears that they ignored their constituents. These new gun control laws are so restrictive that 54 of Colorado's 64 sheriffs joined a federal lawsuit against the state of Colorado arguing that the new gun control legislation is unconstitutional.
As you can imagine, a lot of outside groups have been donating money to those on both sides of the recall election. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has been the biggest single contributor for the anti-recall side and the NRA has been the biggest contributor for the recall side.
I saw two maps on the Colorado Spring's Gazette's website this morning that shows where the various donations are coming from. According to the article, the anti-recall group has raised $3.1 million from all over the US to include Alaska and Hawaii. Many of the donations are coming from people on the East and West Coasts.
The Pro-Recall side has raised $266,231 according to the article. The Pro-Recall side has clearly attracted donors across the U.S but the largest concentration does appear to be in Colorado.
I am sure glad that Mayor Bloomberg and the people that do not live in Colorado do not get to actually vote in this recall election.
Last week, I got sick of hearing political campaign adds suggesting that it was liberals outside of the Colorado Springs area that want to recall John Morse, the State Senate President. So, I decided to join the NRA. I feel like the NRA is helping to represent my rights. I am a part of the NRA. Thank you NRA.
Sincerely,
