Realtor Rules on Craigslist?

As a newbie to the world of marketing with CL, I want to make sure I'm doing it right?!  When I signed up and browsed through all the rules and restrictions, I didn't really notice anything specific to Realtor rules, regulations and/or restrictions.  However, after talking with anther agent in my office, she said that she had signed up for the "Realtor Membership" which allowed her to post a certain number of listings?  Has anyone else heard or know anything about this?  The only thing that I came across was that you could not repost a listing for 48 hours.

I also read a comment on Max's post, My Craigslist Experience with Listings from Michael regarding customers with active subscriptions..  Michael, if you're out there, could you please expand?!  Apparently, I need step by step instructions to walk me through the process....  lol.

Thanks for all your help!

20 Comments on Realtor Rules on Craigslist?

Interesting post Karisma - I've never heard of or seen "Realtor membership" rules. I am hoping someone answers your question - if you receive off post comments, please let us know.

Thanks Debbie- I was hoping it wasn't just me....   I'll keep you posted if I hear anything!

Anyone.......    anyone......    Bueller.......     Bueller......

You crack me up Karisma.......

I was also wondering about this.  I did not see anything realtor specific- only non-descriminatory info.

That's all I've seen too.    I'll have to check back with the agent that told me about her membership and see what she was talking about?!  If she even knows....

I posted a second listing with them at 1:30 today- this builder/seller is going to do a buy down on the interest to qualified buyers on an accepted contract to 4.5% for the first year and 5.5% for the second, then whatever the going rate is for the 3-30th years.....  Pretty sweet incentive!!  We've already had 25 hits on CL between then and now- 7 HOURS!!

Maybe the plural is on the wrong word.  It should be Realtors Rule!  Not Realtor Rules.

At least that's what it should be!

You might want to look at CL posting software, and have Internet Explorer 6.0 (not the latest version)

Thanks for the advice, I will have to check it out!

In the meantime, I just got done signing up for Postlets- check it out if you get the chance!

Karisma, be careful about posting interest rates and the like.  Make sure you are following Federal Truth in Lending and Reg Z rules.  And good luck!

At first I thought there was a rule on outside linking (to your virtual tour) but that is not the case. After reading the craigslist rules and such, I found that it was totally ok to link to your VT even through postlets (after having to do some HTML editing). I haven't heard/seen any Real Estate Agent rules, so I'm curious also...

I have been using Craigslist for about six months using Postlets.  I have never seen any special Realtor rules or registration.

Yes me too.  I use postlets for everything but very soon Real Tour Vision Virtual Tours

will be sent to several sites automatically. Virtual Tour Syndication is the next big thing.  How many eyes can get on my tours?  What is my reach? My exposure level.

Thank you all for leaving such great comments and helpful hints!  Postlets seems to have a common thread that I'm going to have to get into the practice of using on a regular basis!

Jason- are you leaking any privagled information there for all of us RTV providers possibly?!  I'd love to hear more about this Virtual Tour Syndication!

It would lead us to believe that there are not any rules for Real Estate Agents I suppose.  I will check back periodically to see if anything gets updated.  Great topic though.

I don't know the answer to your question, Karisma, but I would like to comment that I think it is worth pursuing the answer.  We have had tremendous success with getting business from Craigslist.  Every time I update my listings, I get contacted by potential clients.  It is incredible.

Karisma -  I have never seen anything on Craigslist about a Realtor Membership.  I have been using it for a couple of years now and have done thousands of ads.

Of course you have to follow the rules that you would advertising anywhere else.  Every state is different. ONe of my pet peves on craigslist is Realtors that do not disclose they are agents on their ads.

I just created my first postlet and I added it to Craigslist as well.  I also did not read anything about a Realtor Membership.  Please keep us updated.  Good question!

Karisma,

It seems to me you are doing it just fine! Keep up the good work!

This is a good question.  But I think if you use sites like postlets.com you will be right on the money on doing it right.

Craigslist doesn't have rules beyond asking for complaince with Anti-discrimatory policy.  However most MLS's and NAR now have rules in place about advertising listings.  The biggets violations are when advertising properties which aren't your listings without permission.

Karisma:  Is there any new information on this topic?  I posted for the first time on CL this past week.  I have always been aware of it but never crossed my mind of you using it for avenue for FREE marketing until I read a post on AR.
