Chatham's 'Fashion and the City' Event  Held Sept 5/2013

a Huge Success

I am a little tardy writing a followup to last Thursday's second 'Chatham Fashion and The City' Event. This in no way a reflection on all the hard work and success of the evening, thanks to the Downtown Participating Merchants as well as the Community Partnership Fund and the generous sponsorship of the BIA and Victory Ford Lincoln.

Sunday Sept 8 was the 'Walk A Mile In her Shoes' Charity Event and I wanted to let everyone know about this very important fund raiser that supports our Chatham Women's Centre so everyone could turn out, walk or support the walkers. I did that, so here is the followup to last Thursdays 'Fashion In The City' held in beautiful Historic Downtown Chatham.Historic Downtown Chatham King St.

Now it is time to give credit where credit is due. Fashion and the City was a night to remember and quite an accomplishment for all of those involved in making it so memorable. The evening began with Fashion Show at 6 P.M. at the beautiful Capitol Theatre Capitol Theatreand   the lineups started at 4:30 with Champagne being served outside at the bar. Last year the show was held at the Armouries and although it was a great show, some people had to be turned away due to lack of space. This year no one was taking any chances and they came out early to be sure to get a seat. My wife and daughter were at the front but said it looked like a full house. The Theatre was a buzz with chatter and fashion. The audience certainly put the emphasis on 'FASHION' and there was everything from glitter to hats and feathers to furs. It was a wonderful sight.

The Fashion Show itself was a big hit! The outfits highlighted ranged from workout clothes to casual chic ensembles, mother-to-be outfits to evening and bridal wear. We even had Children's Fashion and if you have ever been to a Fashion Show with small children, you know that they often steal the show. Some were shy and not sure about being the centre of attention, walking very slowly and hesitantly to the front of the stage, others were enjoying the limelight and dancing up a storm. Whatever their style they were a welcome addition. Congratulations to all who participated in making this such a success from the models to the merchants to the stage people and the photographers. Great Job!

When the Fashion Show was over everyone headed for King St. despite the cool temperatures. The individual stores had giveaways, free draws and the comraderie and sales were great. The tills were ringing and the atmophere was electric. Even the Downtown restaurants and Coffee Shops were full, the attendees taking time out to warm up and have a little refreshment.

The mall was busy, and you could even try your hand at the Putting Green and win a prize, thanks to Collins Formal Wear. Jim Carrington from the store was on hand to give tips and everyone was having a great time. All in all it was quite an evening and one I am sorry you missed if you did.
