On Sunday September 8, 2013 The Katy Contemporary Art Museum opened its doors to its first exhibit. This exhibit is titled “ All About Katy”. The art was created by 24 local artists who are displaying art having to do with life in Katy. Katy Contemporary Art Museum is located at 805 Avenue B Katy TX which is in old Katy. The phone number is 832-541-7981.
The museum is open Wednesday- Saturday from 10AM until 6 PM and on Sunday from 12 noon until 6 PM. Admission to this new museum is FREE.. There are several levels of membership which will ensure local community ownership will exist.
The new museum is the first step in creating a Museum District within the City limits of Katy. A gift shop will be opened which will contain items “ made in Katy” and space is reserved for local artists and their various art works.
The museum will eventually be a permanent place to exhibit painting, photography and sculpture. The museum will also hold periodic social art mixers, lectures and films. Ana Roman is heading up this new museum and she is founder of the Katy Culture and Arts Alliance.
This is great news for the City of katy and residents of the surrounding unincorporated areas as now Katy has its own Art Museum.
