This idea came to me yesterday when I was evaluating my business plans for the coming two years. I was thinking of ways to generate a little extra income. Home inspections remain my primary focus, but I was considering how I could develop more leads or ways to produce greater revenues when I went outside of the box. I am still developing my thoughts and strategies for this, but I though of sharing it, so you may work on it as well for your own business.
I worked as a facilities manager before becoming an inspector, and it is while I was overseeing a remodeling of the facilities of a store as a business consultant, that I was asked to check on some contractors at a home, and that led me to the inspection profession. There are many connections between the fields of inspection and facilities management, so I believe that small and medium sized firms may need someone to handle their facilities management for them. It would entail finding contractors to repair the mechanical and other systems, janitorial services, landscaping services, and handyman repairs. These are contract services that we are familiar with, and some items may be tasks that we do. It also involves inspecting the building to arrange these services.
I am thinking that the fee could be a monthly rate, which could include parts if you so choose, but it should include all recurring charges. Only major repairs should be an additional bill.
Maybe you already do something like this. If so, I would like to hear how you developed your business model. If you do not, maybe this idea can assist you for further income. I am still playing with the feasibility of it.
