9-11 What I Learned
I could not let this day pass without some remembrance of September 11, 2001. Many speak of what they remember; other will write of lost friends and family members. Others still will recall where they were …. who among us will ever forget where we were and what we were doing.
Several years prior to that day, I remember reading an article from one of our nation’s top leaders. In it he warned us of our complacency.
He said that waiting out there were those enemies of our country who might be poised to enter the country , perhaps in the cover of night.
You might say that was nothing new but up to that time, our wars had been fought “over there.”
So as I remember 9-11, I also hope to remember what I’ve learned…. and hopefully what our country and others have learned as well.
1. We cannot take our lives or ourselves for granted….ever.
2. As much as we love our country and our lifestyle, we cannot become so arrogant, ignorant or obtuse that we think we are the center of that universe.
3. Like all of our families with our grumpy Uncle George, crazy Aunt Millie and “are you sure he’s part of our family” cousin Harry….. in the end, when times and circumstances call for it, we come together as a family and from that strength we stand against all forces.
4. I love this country and the people that live in it and for it.
Be Thankful for What We Have
and
Never Forget
