Tonight, September 12, 2013, KY3, the NBC affliate in Springfield, Mo will broadcast their 5 and 6pm newscast from Silver Dollar City. Silver Dollar City is a 1880's theme park complete with old time crafts and events and a ton of history.
Some of the things they will be talking about on the newscast are Outlaw Run, the award-winning new roller coaster; Fall cooking; Hot air balloons; Dogwood Canyon; A stunt show; A saddle maker and other craftsmen and craftswomen; Table Rock Lake’s history; Silver Dollar City’s history; the Riders in the Sky show, and Texas trick riders.
Want to enter the park and see the newscast, tickets are only $10 for park admission between 3pm and 7pm and mention the KY3 broadcast at the ticket counter. Proceeds from the tickets go to the Children's Miracle Network.
What makes this fun for me is that when KY3 filmed Celebrate the Ozarks originally at Silver Dollar City in 1987, I was fortunate enough to work with the Marketing Team at Silver Dollar City and met with news staff and escourted them through the park while the draft of the newscast was being created and was a part of the behind the scenes newscast.
Want to see the parts of the original Celebrate the Ozarks, watch this clip at the 2:26 mark. Celebrate the Ozarks was inspired by then news director Joyce Reed who now is the News Director for three news stations in Tulsa and Oklahoma City. For the locals of the years past, you will enjoy seeing where Joyce is today.
